My Luscious Locks

Summers on its way and many of you are getting your beach bodies and closets ready for summer… but what about hair?

I’ve never been one to really put much effort into my hair. My motto with hair is: LET IT FLOW! By this I mean I rarely have my hair up or do anything special with it. I love the effortless look, especially with my hair. Unlike for you, summer is no vacation for your hair. The warm sun can burn it, swimming keeps getting it wet and you keep your hair up much more than usual. All of this can suck the life out of your bouncy locks pretty fast. Sure has for me for the past few summers…

Lately a few people have asked me how I take care of my hair. So I decided to share some of my own hair tips which I feel definitely work. With these tips I try to liven my hair up as much as possible for the summer.

For starters I cut my hair twice a year, and each time I only cut the split ends off which is approximately 3-5cm each time. The last time I put highlights in my hair was a year ago and I only added a few brightening (natural blonde) highlights to lighten up the over all shade. My natural hair color is a typical nordic blonde, which everyone seems to call sand or gravel blonde. When I was younger I absolutely hated my hair color because it was so dull and lifeless. So a few highlights often cheers up the look. I used to wash my hair every single day. I noticed that my hair felt flat and got dirty and greasy rather fast, thus needed a wash everyday. However, once I started washing my hair every 2 or 3 days I noticed that my hair seems much thicker and livelier than it used to. I also noticed that my hair stayed ’clean’ looking for much longer. So now I stick to washing my hair every 2-3 days. This is easy for me since I hardly ever use any sprays or mousses in my hair.

So the products and tools I use to keep my hair in shape throughout the year:

Moroccanoil Light – I use this after washing my hair. I usually apply it to damp hair or sometimes I add a little drop straight onto dry ends.
Tangle Teezer hair brush – Simply the best.
Natural boar bristle brush – Super soft and helps distribute your hairs natural oils all the way to the ends.
Invisibobble – Best hair band I know.
Jaw clip – I use this when I was my face or if I’m cleaning. Easy way to get the hair up quickly.

This has to be my absolute favorite shampoo and conditioner set. L’oreal Elvital Fiberlogy deep cleanses the hair, gives it more volume and makes it feel thicker. Personally I don’t believe in advertisements especially with hair or make-up products, but this one sure works for me. For some reason the smell of it reminds me of the feeling you get when you come back to the hotel for a shower after a long day at the beach…but maybe that’s just me 😀

So here are my tips this time. My next hair appointment is in June. I’m going to ask for a simple cut to get rid of the dry and split ends and then I’ll  ask for a few simple highlights to brighten up my hair for the summer.

P.s. In these pictures you can see my natural hair color. It looks really dark compared to the rest of my hair (which is dyed blonde). I used to have platinum blonde hair but then I thought its such an old look…so I grew out my own color and now I have a natural slide color (from dark to light). I’m thinking of growing my own shade out completely and just adding a few highlights every once in a while.
