Career VS Job – following your passion
Hi!
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the future. As a young girl I had lots of dreams of what I would grow up to be. My number one dream was to work at a kiosk (because of all the candy) haha 😀 Later on I dreamed of being an actress or a model. At the age of 13 I got a shot at both of these dreams in Singapore. I started working as a model at a very young age in Asia. It was lots of fun and a dream come true for me. I had lots of jobs ranging from fashion shows, photo shoots, commercial shoots and also appearances in a few local TV shows. It was a great experience!
In school I joined the drama club which was the schools own theater program and learned a lot about acting. I guess acting still has a small spot in my heart – you never know what the future will bring.
Once I moved to Finland I kept modeling for a few years however later decided to focus on studying. I went on to study International Business and Marketing. I’ve lived abroad for so many years that what ever it was I went onto study had to have the international perspective. Also through working as a model I had always been very interested in advertising, so I decided to major in marketing. This was a very logical and well thought out career path which will surely path out to a steady job one day.
…But do you ever stop to just dream about all the things you could be doing if it all went a little different?
Lately I’ve been dreaming of becoming a fashion designer. At this moment the realists around me would laugh and say stick to what you’re doing.
….But why?
I’ve always had the mentality – ’try everything once’. If there is a dream you wish to live out and see if it could maybe be your thing, go for it.
It wasn’t long ago that a friend of mine came to me after her graduation from business school, talking about her dream of music as a profession. I told her that it is never too late to have a go at something you dream of doing, it is never too late to try. She has a degree in business so she can find a steady job, however on the side she can give music a go. Currently she’s been in contact with a few very talented music producers and is now applying to music schools in pursuit of her dream.
I guess the moral of the story is no matter what you do it is never too late to give your dream a go. I’m still studying international business and marketing but on my free time I’m practicing drawing and designing. It might not lead anywhere major but It’s a dream of mine I wish to keep alive, maybe one day I’ll have a daughter and I can design her prom dress 😉 who knows haha!
Keep your dream doors open <3 H
